About me

For as long as memory serves, I have references and recollections that involve food. This passion has brought me to create and develop Heinstirred. As a South African food writer and photographer based in Cape Town I’m at my happiest in the kitchen, behind the camera or better still, both. My work has been featured on food24.com, food52.com, Huffington Post USA, Canada and UK, Buzzfeed, The Kitchn, Elle Decor Sweden, brit.co and feedfeed.info. I contribute regularly to the Sunday Times Food Weekly, as well as develop and photograph recipes for Marie Claire Cuisine et Vins de France and Checkers. Photography clients include The Test Kitchen, The One & Only Cape Town, Pink Lady Apples, Radisson Blu Waterfront Cape Town, Taste Magazine, and Food and Home Entertaining. Awards include being Shortlisted in 3 categories of the 2016 Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition; Finalist in the Food Blogging category of the 2015 Pink Lady Food Photographer of the Year competition and Runner Up in the Food & Wine Category of the 2015 African Blogger Awards, Ever evolving as a food lover, my favourite pastime is travelling to eat with itineraries built around flavours, meals and restaurants. My latest eating trips include Beirut and Copenhagen, allowing me to discover cuisines that easily rival my love for all things Italian. A new interest is the photography of events that have a distinct food focus, this in collaboration with well known photographer Francois Pistorius. Through FoodPhoto we aim to tell another side of the story by capturing a behind the scenes and candid look at the preparation, presentation and enjoyment of food.
